August

The month started out with a lego contest.  Easton's contest...build a new home for Jabba the Hut.

Cache's contest...build your favorite summer food (popsicles).  I ended up having to pay for priority shipping since I procrastinated taking the picture of the final products (for a cost of $5).  I figured if we won the $100 gift card it would pay for itself.  (However, we still haven't heard from Lego, so I figure we didn't win either!)

The twins enjoying a nice popsicle after their haircut.  We decided to avoid the buzz...not the best look for them yet.

Sometimes Easton and Cache have baby envy.  Easton quite enjoyed himself.  Cache wanted out as soon as I grabbed the camera.

The endless fun of a cardboard box.

Whenever Cache has cute moment with one of the babies, he yells 'mom, grab your camera'.

Here is another moment...

Our community recently had a garage sale and I scored 2 pampered chef pizza stones for a total of $5.  They were marked for $5 each and I was willing to go to $8...but basically the lady just gave me one for free!  Here Cache is helping me with our new pizza stone debut.  For the record, the crust turned out great.

We have spent all summer growing tadpoles.  Unbeknownst to the boys, we have gone through 5-6 of them.    We finally found that keeping them in our fishtank with a running filter maintained their life.  I thought this would be a fun, quick experience, but these tadpoles take FOREVER to become frogs (2-3 months).  Finally he grew back legs and almost a month later the front legs popped out.  We had to change their home when they got front legs before they drowned.  Gradually, the tail shrunk and we had ourselves a little frog.  I think I ended up enjoying the process as much as the kids....except I'm ready to have the space on my kitchen island back!

Our friends, the Airmets came to visit for 4 days this summer.  The boys had such a great time.  Easton basically idolizes Noah.  Apparently, it is quite common for kids to idolize Noah.  Easton had to be within arms reach of Noah the entire time (as shown in this picture).  Noah was a great sport about it.  When Noah left, Easton was so sad he basically cried for a half hour.  It was the most heart-breaking moment ever.

Easton started his first organized sport...flag football...complete with orange mouthguard.

Easton and Xander hanging out.

Me and Easton hanging out.

Popcorn is a food group at our house.

I have been looking for a place to take the boys fossil hunting.  I finally found a children's museum (about an hour away) that was putting on a fossil dig.  I signed the boys up immediately.  They had such a great time.

The first dig site was just on the side of the road.  Apparently this was the easier of the two sites to find fossils.

They were really hoping to find dinosaur bones.

Crossing a river to the second dig site.

Having 4 boys is usually pretty crazy.  The twins are constantly doing things to endanger their lives...but since their are two of them, they pretty much learn by trial and error.  Here they are standing on their cars (which move quite easily on the tile)...first on the base, then on the steering wheel.  Most of the time they are lucky to be alive!

This pot is suppose to be upside down.  The kids have learned that it makes a great thing to climb on and be king of the castle!

A typical dog pile...minus one kid...or maybe he is in their too!

My friend showed me a new park (which is surprising because I tend to know all the parks in the area).  The caveat is, this park wasn't exactly in the area, about 25 minutes away in the country.  It had a double decker slide area that was quite cool.  The kids felt like they were caged animals...which they are.

Xander is really getting into climbing on things.  He has been a little more timid than Declan, but he's catching up quickly.

He especially loves to hang on things.  He even hangs on the granite counter overhang on the kitchen island.

A classic battle...even when there are two steering wheels they fight over the same one.

We invited our neighbor, Carter, to come to the park as well.  He was suppose to be a playmate for Easton (who is the same age)...but Cache ended up hanging out with them as well (which left my friend's kid out).  Oh well, so much for planning.

The monumental first day of school!
Easton Svir:  Kindergartener

We made a delicious breakfast.  Had clothes set out.  He did his own hair (straight down...even though a prefer a good spike!)  Got the whole family together (including dad, who took the day off) and walked to school (we are a walking route).

Since he is in Kindergarten, he gets the choice to ride the bus home.  Since he has been waiting to ride a bus since he was born, that was an easy choice.  It looks like he survived the day...maybe even enjoyed himself. I asked him what the best part of the day was and he said, 'riding the bus'.

We had homemade cookies when he got home and David took the big boys to the farm.  It was a great first day!  David of course went to work the second day of school, and I made Easton eat his breakfast on the porch until he saw the neighbors start walking.  Well, I guess he can at least say it was a good first day!

I often think Xander is the most spoiled kid we have.  This is proof.  It actually was a factor of the right place at the right time.  At my feet (as always) while I was trying to make room in the freezer.

Declan loves neclaces and bracelets.  He found the bag of cookie cutters and somehow managed to make them into bracelets.

He tried to put on Easton's shark tooth necklace, but was content to wear it as a headpiece for a few hours.

This year, I decided not to join the farm.  It was a tough decision because we have been members since Easton was as old as the twins.  Groupon put out a great coupon, so I bought enough for 4 visits.  The twins got right up on the jumping pillow and had a great time.  They especially loved feeding the animals.  We love the farm!

David took the boys fishing at the farm.  Cache caught the little sunfish.  Easton used it as bait and caught this!  We weren't sure who should eat who for lunch!
